As of January 1, 2025, Switzerland requires marketplaces like Etsy to collect 8.1% VAT on all orders delivered to Swiss addresses, regardless of the seller's location or the order value.
How does Etsy handle VAT for Swiss buyers?
Etsy collects 8.1% VAT at checkout.
The buyer pays the tax as part of their total.
Etsy sends the tax directly to the Swiss Tax Authority - sellers do not need to handle the VAT themselves.
What information should be added to the package?
To avoid double taxation (i.e. the buyer being charged VAT again on delivery), shipments with VAT over 5 CHF must include specific information on the label and in electronic shipping data.
For all Etsy orders shipping to Switzerland, we will now include the following:
Etsy’s name and Swiss VAT number: Etsy - UID: CHE-373.086.513
The total order value in CHF: Example: CHF 100.00
The VAT amount collected by Etsy in CHF: Example: CHF 8.10
How do I make sure this information is transmitted electronically?
If you’ve connected your Etsy store to Prodigi using our sales channels integration, we’ve got you covered. For any orders received from Etsy through the integration the required information will be automatically included in the shipping data and on the label.
